The organization of activities of the Regional academic centers (RAC) and the Academic network of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).

By a decision of the Management council of BAS, regional academic centers were founded as unions of individual units of BAS on a voluntary basis, other scientific organizations, universities, economic enterprises and organizations, state and municipal structures and other organizations from the corresponding regions of the country, as well as their foreign partners.

Regional academic centers form an academic network, which has the following goals: popularizing scientific achievements, conducting interdisciplinary scientific research, increasing the effectiveness of education, creating and implementing scientifically applied results, scientific and expert support for the activities of state and municipal authorities, business and other organizations.

The functioning and management of the BAS Academic Network is ensured by a Council of Coordinators, which consists of the coordinators of the Regional Academic Centres. Operational management is carried out by a Chief Coordinator appointed by the BAS Management.

The main functions of the Council of Coordinators are to coordinate the research, educational and innovative activities of the RACs. The aim is to achieve greater efficiency in their scientific and applied implementation through participation in national and international forums, conferences, congresses and interaction with the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members of BAS.

The activities of the Council of Coordinators are periodically reported by the Chief Coordinator to the partners and the BAS Management.

The Advisory Council to the Academic Network of BAS supports the activities of the Regional Academic Centers at BAS through consultations, expertise, organization of conferences, seminars and other scientific events related to their activities.

The President of the BAS by written order determines the size and composition of the Advisory Board, its chairman and the main coordinator of the Academic Network. The Advisory Board functions on a public basis, without financial commitment from BAS.

The interaction and cooperation between the partners in the Regional Academic Centres is defined in the signed by them and BAS Memorandums of Cooperation with the Municipalities and Cooperation Agreements with the individual members.
